Arsene Wenger sets comeback date for forgotten Arsenal man
Arsene Wenger has offered a positive update on Danny Welbeck after confirming the forgotten attacker is due to make his comeback in January.
Welbeck has endured a torrid time with injuries over the past two years as he was first ruled out for 10-months with a serious knee injury that kept him out for the majority of last season.
The 25-year-old was then cruelly sidelined again after suffering another knee injury – this time to his right knee – during the 2-2 draw with Manchester City back in May.
Welbeck underwent surgery and was initially expected to be out for at least 9 months, however, it appears the striker is ahead of schedule as Wenger has confirmed he’ll be back running again in two weeks time.
Danny is then set to undergo a two-month rehabilitation period where he’ll look to rebuild his fitness with the aim of making his comeback in January 2017, but Arsene has warned it will take some time before he’ll be back to his best.
The boss is quoted by Arsenal.com as saying at his press conference on Friday morning:
on Welbeck..
He could be back in January. After that let’s not forget he was already out for a year, so we might have to be patient. To get him back to a really competitive level… it will certainly take two months of competition to get back to his best.on what stage he is at…
No [he is not out running yet], he will be starting to run in two weeks.
It’s great to hear that Welbeck is progressing well and could be back in the New Year but he still has a lot of work to do before he’ll be in contention for a place in the squad so let’s see how things progress over the coming weeks.
