Arsene Wenger offers injury update on Alexis Sanchez
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has offered an update on Alexis Sanchez’s ankle injury and confirmed the attacker will miss our pre-season tour of the United States.
Sanchez suffered a nasty ankle problem during the Copa America final against Argentina and posted some gruesome images of his swollen and bruised ankle on social media some weeks ago.
The 27-year-old has been undergoing treatment during his holiday’s and will be further assessed when he returns to London Colney to begin his pre-season preparations next week.
Wenger has said the injury ‘is not too bad’ but also confirmed that Sanchez will not travel with the rest of the squad to California for our pre-season tour of the United States.
The boss told Arsenal.com:
“Alexis will not go either because he had an ankle injury. That is not too bad but I will leave him behind as well.”
It’s a shame that Alexis won’t be going on the tour but it’s best that he remains in North London to receive treatment on his injury to ensure he’s fit and ready to go for the start of the season.
Aaron Ramsey, Olivier Giroud, Laurent Koscielny and Mesut Ozil will also miss the trip to America as they aren’t due to begin their pre-season until next month following their late participation at Euro 2016.
However, new signings Granit Xhaka and Rob Holding will be on the plane along with the likes of Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Petr Cech.
