Arsenal star a doubt after suffering knee injury
Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud is a doubt for France’s Euro 2016 semi-final clash with Germany after picking up a knee injury in training this week.
The Daily Mail are reporting that Giroud was forced to miss training on Tuesday and was required to undergo treatment on his knee while the rest of his team mates trained at their Clairefontaine base.
The good news is that the 29-year-old striker is hoping to take part in a light session today as long as the injury doesn’t flare up again overnight as Giroud desperately tries to prove his fitness ahead of Thursday night’s huge showdown with Germany.
It would be a big blow for France if Giroud was ruled out of the game tomorrow as with no Karim Benzema in the squad, the often criticised Arsenal hitman has played a vital role for his nation this summer.
Giroud has scored three goals in his four appearances so far, including a double during the quarter final win over Iceland, and has been praised for his excellent team-work and unselfish style of play in helping the likes of Payet and Griezmann flourish in attack.
Without Olivier, France boss Didier Deschamps would have to call upon Andre-Pierre Gignac to lead the line, so I’m sure all of France is praying the Arsenal hitman is passed fit to start at the Stade Velodrome on Thursday where he’ll face-off against team-mate Mesut Ozil for a place in the final.
