Arsenal star offers injury update after picking up knock at Hull
Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has given a brief update on his injury after he picked up a knock at Hull on Tuesday night.
The German giant was forced off mid-way through the first half after suffering a cut to his eye following a clash of heads with Hull midfielder Nick Powell.
After receiving some treatment from the Arsenal medical team, Per tried to play on but was eventually substituted with Nacho Monreal coming on to replace him at the back.
There was a little bit of confussion over why Mertesacker was taken off with Arsene initially saying he had suffered slight concussion, before later saying it was because of the cut.
However, Evening Standard reporter James Olley has claimed on Twitter that he spoke with Per as he boarded the team bus last night and says the defender confirmed he was taken off because he was feeling dizzy.
So it appears Mertesacker did in fact need to be replaced because he’d suffered minor concussion but the centre-back is confident he’ll be fit to face Watford in Sunday’s FA Cup quarter final at the Emirates.
Let’s hope so as with Gabriel also being forced off with a muscle injury last night and Laurent Koscielny a doubt with a calf injury, we’d be severely lacking in defensive options if Mertesacker was to join them on the sidelines
Here is Olley’s tweet:
Spoke to Per Mertesacker as he boarded the #afc bus. Said he felt dizzy so he came off after being patched up. Should be OK for the weekend.
