Arsenal suffer huge blow as star ruled out for at least 6 weeks
Arsenal have been dealt a huge injury blow with Arsene Wenger confirming that midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will miss at least six weeks with a knee injury.
Oxlade-Chamberlain was forced off shortly after half-time during our Champions League defeat to Barcelona last week after suffering a knee injury while colliding with Javier Mascherano.
The midfielder was sent to see a specialist late last week to determine the full extent of the injury with Arsene claiming over the weekend that he was hoping he’d only be ruled out for around 2-3 weeks.
However, the boss has now revealed that while The Ox won’t require surgery, the 22-year-old is still expected to be on the sidelines for between six to eight weeks.
It means Oxlade-Chamberlain is unlikely to feature until the end of April – although Wenger is confident it won’t affect his chances of making the England squad for this summer’s European Championships.
The news comes as a real blow to Arsenal but it compounds what has been a frustrating season for Oxlade-Chamberlain as he’s struggled to make an impact and now he’ll do well to play during the final few games of the season.
Hopefully he can get himself fit as soon as possible and get back before the end of April and play some sort of role during our run-in but knowing Arsenal, we’ll probably figure out in a few weeks that he does actually need surgery.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Swansea, Arsene said:
