Arsene Wenger offers injury update on key midfielder
Arsene Wenger has offered an injury update on Jack Wilshere and confirmed that the midfielder isn’t expected to return for another six weeks.
Wilshere hasn’t featured this season after suffering a fractured fibula in training on the eve of our Community Shield victory over Chelsea in early August.
The 24-year-old was only initially expected to be out for around three months but unsurprisingly, he’s suffered a number of setbacks in his recovery along the way.
Jack was pencilled in to make his return against Manchester City just before Christmas but this comeback was put on ice with Arsene saying at the time that he expected the midfielder to be back at some point in February.
However, it looks like Wilshere has suffered yet another setback in recent weeks as the boss has now revealed to reporters that he’s only just started to run again and it will be another six weeks until Jack will be back in contention to play again.
And that’s assuming he doesn’t suffer any more setbacks over the next six weeks, so mid-March is the EARLIEST we should expect to see Wilshere back on the pitch.
Here is what the boss is quoted as saying by the Guardian:
“Jack is starting to run. Once you move out, from the first day, you count six weeks to be competitive and build up stamina and intensity. You need six weeks to be ready fitness-wise.”
It’s been such a disappointing season for him and now Jack is only going to get to play a few weeks of the run-in, if he’s lucky.
It will take him some time to get back to anything like his best form so he’s facing a race against time to not only make any impact on our season, but also to put himself in contention for a place in the England Euro 2016 squad.
Let’s hope Wilshere can get back on the pitch as soon as possible but unfortunately I don’t think anyone would be surprised if he suffered another setback once he steps-up his training over the next few weeks.
