Team News: Wenger confirms huge injury boost + Sanchez update
Arsene Wenger has been speaking at his press conference this morning and offered a team news and injury update ahead of Sunday’s crucial Premier League trip to Stoke City.
The boss confirmed a huge injury boost with the news that Danny Welbeck is due to make his return from a long-standing knee injury in 2-3 weeks time.
Welbeck is yet to feature this season after undergoing surgery on a knee problem that he suffered back in April of last year but it looks as though the attacker is closing in on making his comeback.
Some fans have suggested that Arsenal need to add another striker to their ranks this month but Arsene believes he won’t be able to find anyone better than Welbeck in the transfer market.
The boss also confirmed to reporters that Alexis Sanchez has two days to prove his fitness ahead of the Stoke game as the Chilean international looks to finally overcome a hamstring injury that’s kept him out since late November.
Obviously I’d love to see Alexis back in the team on Sunday but only if he’s 100% fit as it would be a disaster if we rushed him back and he suffered another set-back.
Arsene also told the press that we have no fresh injuries to contend with and new signing Mohamed Elneny could be in the squad after completing his move from FC Basel yesterday.
Elneny will give us some proper competition for Mathieu Flamini while Coquelin is out but I’m not sure it’s wise to throw him straight into action at Stoke this weakened. Maybe give him some minutes in the second half if we can but I’d certainly not start him just yet.
Here is what Wenger told reporters this morning:
Wenger says Elneny is available for selection, Sanchez has 2 days to prove if he's ready for a "gamble on his fitness". No other injuries

Wenger stressing need for players to come back from injury rather than new signings. "Welbeck 2/3 weeks away, I won't find better than him."
