Arsene Wenger offers Alexis Sanchez injury update
Arsene Wenger has given an update on the fitness of Alexis Sanchez and claims the attacker should be back in contention to face Sunderland next week.
Sanchez hasn’t played since pulling up with a hamstring injury during our 1-1 draw at Norwich City at the end of November.
The Chilean international was due to return to the squad against Manchester City on the 21st but he suffered a set-back in training which ruled him out for at least another two weeks.
Speaking ahead of our clash with Newcastle on Saturday, the boss has now revealed that while Sanchez will be just short for this weekend, he should be available for next weeks FA Cup game with Sunderland.
His return will come as a major boost as although we’ve coped reasonably well in his absence over the last month, obviously Sanchez is a world class talent and his return to the first team can only be a positive thing.
Hopefully Sanchez doesn’t suffer any further setbacks over the next week and he should then be in contention to feature against the Black Cats at the Emirates next weekend.
In a further fitness boost, Arsene also revealed that Mathieu Flamini could return to the squad against Newcastle after missing the win over Bournemouth with a minor injury.
Here is what the boss is quoted as telling reporters this morning:
"Flamini has a chance to come back, Sanchez is still short but could come back in one week against Sunderland." #AFC
