Arsenal boost as attacker steps-up injury return

Arsenal have been handed an injury boost with Danny Welbeck stepping-up his return from knee surgery.
Welbeck hasn’t played for us since way back in April after picking up what at first was thought to be a minor knee problem.
However, it turned out to be far more serious and the 24-year-old was eventually forced to go under the knife back in early September.
There were then conflicting reports over how long Welbeck would be sidelined for with England boss Roy Hodgson suggesting he could be out until March, while Arsene Wenger was confident it would be nearer Christmas.
Welbeck has now been speaking to the press and revealed that after a frustrating few months, he’s that little bit closer to getting back on the pitch after his leg brace was removed, and he hopes to return to action in the New Year.
The former United forward says he’s not even thinking about getting back in the England squad for the Euro’s just yet as he must first concentrate on getting fit and playing for Arsenal again.
He’s quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“It’s difficult to put an exact date on it, around the New Year. After I had the operation, I was in a leg brace for about four weeks – which wasn’t easy. I had to do a lot of machine work, about six hours a day.
“Sleeping in a leg brace isn’t good. At night it’s not comfortable, it’s the first time I’ve slept on my back in years.
“It’s good to finally be out of the brace now and walking. It feels like I’m getting that little bit closer to getting back out on the pitch.”
“I am not looking ahead to the Euros at the moment, I need to get back for Arsenal first, then see what happens. It is never good to get injured at any point. It is frustrating.
“I missed the back end of last season, then came back into pre-season training and you go through it all again with the rehab. It is frustrating.
“But it is something which is part and parcel of the game. It is something I have to deal with.”
I personally think we’ve missed Welbeck while he’s been out as he’s a useful player to have available in the squad. He’s endured a mixed time since joining from United last summer but I’m confident he can become an important player if he stays injury free for a prolonged period.
Let’s hope the rest of his rehabilitation goes smoothly and Danny can get himself back playing again at the start of 2016.
