Arsenal boss rules attacker out for around 4 months

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has ruled Danny Welbeck out for at least four months after confirming the attacker won’t return before Christmas at the earliest.

Welbeck has been suffering with a knee injury that he picked up way back in April and while he was initially only meant to be out for a matter of days, the problem has proved to be far more serious than first thought.

With the 24-year-old not responding to treatment and struggling to cope with the increased training workload, the decision was made to operate at the end of August.

Arsenal have kept relatively quiet regarding a potential comeback date – only saying he would be out for a period of months – while Roy Hodgson caused a stir earlier this week after claiming Welbeck would be out for around six months.

However, Wenger has now confirmed that he expects the attacker to be out until at least Christmas, meaning Danny will have been out for at least four months by the time he finally returns to action.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference this morning ahead of Saturday’s clash with Stoke, when asked about when he expects Welbeck to return, Wenger told reporters:

“Certainly until Christmas.”

So we now know that we’ll be without Welbeck until around the New Year. Only at Arsenal could a player be initially ruled out for a few days with bruising only for it to result in eight months on the treatment table.

Let’s hope we can cope without him for the next few months and pray no other attacker picks up a long-term injury….
