Arsenal Star Fuels Move Rumours With Suspicious Twitter Activity
Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal has intensified speculation he could be set for a surprise late move away from the club after following Athletic Bilbao on Twitter today.
Monreal has developed into arguably our most consistent full-back over the past 18 months and is now a regular fixture ahead of Kieran Gibbs in Arsene Wenger’s starting eleven.
Despite this, there have been constant rumours suggesting the 29-year-old could be heading back to his homeland this summer with Bilbao one of several teams credited with an interest in the media.
Monreal has now fuelled the fire after randomly deciding to follow Athletic Bilbao’s official Twitter account earlier this afternoon. You can check it out for yourself here and see a screenshot below.
This is certainly a suspicious move by Nacho as there is no logical reason for him to follow Bilbao on Twitter. When you throw in it’s Spanish transfer deadline day and he’s been linked heavily with the club, it’s no wonder Arsenal fans are worried.
Monreal only has one year remaining on his current deal too, so a move this summer may not be completely out the question. We wouldn’t want to lose him for nothing in 12 months time.
Obviously this could all mean nothing and it would be a HUGE surprise if Arsene allowed his first choice left-back to leave so close to the end of the window, but if Nacho does leave then it’s safe to say we must have a replacement already lined-up.
