Wenger confirms injured Arsenal ace is back in training

It looks like Jack Wilshere is well on course to making a swift return as Arsene Wenger has confirmed the midfielder is now back in training following an ankle injury.
Wilshere suffered his latest injury in training just before the Community Shield at the start of the month and there were immediate fears he could have been facing an extended spell on the sidelines, with some newspapers suggesting it could be as much as three months.
However, it soon became apparent that the injury wasn’t as bad as first feared and the time-scale was first reduced to 6-8 weeks, and then Arsene reduced this even further to around 4 weeks last weekend.
That would put Jack’s potential comeback date towards the end of August and it appears he’s well on course to hitting that target as the boss confirmed at his press conference this morning that the midfielder is now back in training.
Wenger didn’t say whether it was light training or full training but I suspect we’ll play is cautious with Wilshere so he’ll probably just be easing back into action for now.
The boss told reporters today:
“Jack is back in training although we thought at first it would six to eight weeks,” Wenger said. “Now it could be three or four, so that is quite positive.
“I always bring him back when he says he’s ready and when fitness coaches say he has the right quantity of work behind him.
“Maybe when he was younger we overplayed him sometimes because he is such a good player but now we are quite cautious with him.”
Hopefully his recovery continues to go to plan and Wilshere may be able to push for a place in the squad to face Newcastle on the 29th. Otherwise he’ll make his return against Stoke after the international break.
