Arsene Wenger Looking To Sign “Bigger Name” Than Schneiderlin
Arsene Wenger will let Morgan Schneiderlin join Manchester United because he’s looking to sign a ‘bigger name’, according to journalist Andy Mitten.
The boss has been widely tipped to bring in another holding midfielder this summer and Schneiderlin has long been touted as his No.1 target.
It looked like a deal was on the cards when bookmakers slashed their odds last week to just 1/2 on the Frenchman making the move to North London this summer amid reports a deal was close.
However, more recent speculation this week suggests that Arsene has cooled his interest in Schneiderlin which has paved the way for Man Utd to move in, with the midfielder expected to complete a £25m move to Old Trafford shortly.
I, like many Arsenal fans, have been left wondering why the club has passed-up on this opportunity as I think Schneiderlin would be an excellent addition to the squad.
But fear not, as journalist Andy Mitten claims the boss has ditched his plans to sign the 25-year-old as he’s looking to bring in a ‘bigger name’.
In his article for the Daily Post about how Schneiderlin sealed his move to United, Mitten wrote:
Teammates thought Schneiderlin, 25, was going to Arsenal for the player had spoken of his desire to play in the Champions League but Arsene Wenger is now letting it be known that they’re looking for a bigger name to reinforce their midfield.
Hmmm, interesting stuff. I wonder who the boss is eyeing up?
There has been speculation of a move for Arturo Vidal – who’d certainly be classified as a bigger name – but the Telegraph claim that we’ve now ended our interest in the Juventus midfielder and the players agent also confirmed they’ve not had any contact from Arsenal.
William Carvalho is another we’re being linked to but I’m not sure he’d be deemed a ‘bigger name’ than Schneiderlin, while the Bender brothers from Germany are also reported targets but again I wouldn’t consider them as ‘big names’.
We can dream of players like Paul Pogba but that’s just not realistic, so I’m struggling to think of potential targets who are attainable and classify as a big-name signing.
We’ll have to wait and see I suppose, but I hope we end up bringing someone in or I’ll be gutted we passed-up on Schneiderlin…..
