Arsenal Star Suffers Fresh Injury Set-Back, Could Miss FA Cup Final
Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has suffered a fresh injury set-back and is likely to miss the rest of the season, Arsene Wenger confirmed today.
The Ox hasn’t played since suffering a hamstring injury against Manchester United in our FA Cup quarter final win at the start of March.
Just as he closed in on a comeback last month he aggravated a groin injury which ruled him out for a further four weeks.
The 21-year-old returned to training last week and was looking on course to being in contention for our final three games of the season.
However, Wenger revealed at his press conference this morning that The Ox has suffered a fresh hamstring injury which is likely to end his campaign.
The boss did say that if Oxlade-Chamberlain could get himself fit to play some part against West Brom next week then he might play in the FA Cup final, but at this stage that seems unlikely.
It’s a huge blow for Arsenal but you have to feel for The Ox as he’s now likely to miss his second consecutive FA Cup final as a groin problem ruled him out of last years show-piece event at Wembley.
This is what the boss told Arsenal.com:
on if Oxlade-Chamberlain will play again this season…
He will not play next week and after that there’s only one week to go for the cup final. I think he will be short but you never know. If he can be available for West Brom, maybe that’s the earliest he could be. It’s difficult to predict today.
on if the injury is down to inflammation in his groin…
No no. He has done his hamstring in training. No [he won’t need surgery].
