Portuguese Midfielder Hopes To Secure ‘Dream’ Arsenal Move – Reports
William Carvalho’s name is once again being linked to Arsenal with reports coming out of Portugal claiming he hopes to complete a ‘dream’ move to the Emirates this summer.
Carvalho has long been linked with a switch to the Premier League with Arsenal among those strongly tipped to sign him during recent transfer windows.
There were reports last summer suggesting that we were in serious talks over a deal but refused to match Sporting Lisbon’s asking price – which was set at the players €45m buyout clause.
There was talk that we were close to agreeing a deal after the World Cup but our offer was supposedly turned down because we wanted to pay in installments, with Sporting demanding the entire fee up front.
The papers are once again linking Carvalho with a move to the Emirates with Sport Witness citing Portuguese paper O Jojo as saying that the player is an Arsenal fan and hopes to secure a ‘dream’ move to North London this summer.
O Jogo believe that after a fairly average season, Sporting are finally willing to lower their asking price and will cash-in for a fee well below his €45m buyout fee, and they believe that Arsene Wenger remains keen.
It remains to be seen whether we’ll renew our interest but with the boss expected to sign a new central midfielder this summer, it would certainly make sense – especially if Sporting have lowered the asking price.
Carvalho is a beast of a midfielder and under the right tutelage, he’s got the potential to be a top class player. He’s by no means the finished article yet but he’s got all the attributes to be a success at a club like Arsenal.
My personal preference remains Morgan Schneiderlin but if that deal can’t happen for any reason, then Carvalho would certainly be a worthy alternative.
