Wenger Confirms Fresh Injury Blow As Star Set For 3 Weeks Out
Arsenal’s injury curse has struck once again with Arsene Wenger confirming that new signing Gabriel Paulista is facing three weeks on the sidelines.
Gabriel was handed just his second Premier League start after his impressive debut against Everton last weekend as he lined-up alongside Per Mertesacker during our 2-1 win at QPR last night.
However, the Brazilian defender went down holding his leg in the 37th minute and he limped off after receiving treatment to be replaced by Laurent Koscielny.
Speaking to Arsenal.com after the match, the boss confirmed that Gabriel has suffered a hamstring injury and although he isn’t exactly sure yet just how serious it is, he expects the centre-back to be out for three weeks.
Wenger told the clubs website:
It’s a hamstring. I don’t know, it’s bad enough to come off. It’s usually 21 days, not years!
It’s a cruel blow for the club, and the player, to lose Gabriel just as he was making his breakthrough into the first team set-up.
Further tests will no doubt be carried out today to determine the exact nature of the injury, so fingers crossed for some good news.
But if the three week diagnosis is confirmed, then Gabriel will miss the upcoming FA Cup quarter final against Manchester United, Premier League games against West Ham and Newcastle, as well as our Champions League second leg against Monaco.
Let’s hope Per and Kos don’t pick up any injuries or suspensions otherwise we’ll be down to the bare bones at centre-back again.
