Michael Kayode

Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a swoop to sign Brentford defender Michael Kayode, as per Caught Offside.

The Gunners currently have Ben White and Jurrien Timber as right-back options. Moreover, Cristhian Mosquera and Ezri Konsa can provide cover in this area if needed.

However, White has struggled with numerous fitness problems in recent years, while Timber has also had a few injury issues since joining from Ajax Amsterdam.

On the other hand, Mikel Arteta has mainly used Mosquera and Konsa as right centre-back. Therefore, Arsenal are seemingly planning to buy a new right-back.

Now, Caught Offside claim that the Emirates club are planning to add athleticism to their defensive department and are monitoring Kayode’s development closely before making a potential swoop.

With the player’s existing deal set to run until 2032, Brentford are in a strong position to demand a huge fee if they are forced to cash-in and are known for their hardball negotiation tactics. They want up to £55m[€65m] to sell him.

However, the report state that Arsenal will have to overcome fierce competition to seal the deal as Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Juventus and other Italian clubs have also been keeping a close eye on him.

Kayode to Arsenal

Moreover, Liverpool have placed Kayode at the top of their wishlist to upgrade the right-back as Conor Bradley has struggled with fitness problems in recent years, while Jeremie Frimpong has struggled to find his feet in the Premier League.

Kayode is strong, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, and is comfortable playing out from the back. Moreover, he has the ability to take long throw-ins and is efficient in defensive contributions.

Kayode has enjoyed a promising start this season, scoring a solitary goal in five Premier League appearances. Moreover, he has helped his side place themselves fourth in the table.

The 22-year-old is a talented player and possesses the necessary attributes to flourish at the highest level. He is a Premier League-proven player and hasn’t reached his prime yet.

Therefore, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services.
