Arsenal identify Alex Scott as Bruno Guimaraes alternative

Arsenal have earmarked Bournemouth’s midfielder Alex Scott as an alternative to Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimarães, according to the Sun.

Described as ‘unbelievable’ by Pep Guardiola, Scott is among the most highly sought-after emerging prospects in the ongoing transfer window and is already commanding fees well over his £42m Transfermarkt valuation.

Although injuries hampered the start of his Bournemouth career, Scott soon found his rhythm after returning to full fitness, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s standout young midfielders.

Under Andoni Iraola, he missed just one league match last season, featuring in 37 of Bournemouth’s 38 Premier League fixtures as the Cherries secured European qualification for the first time in their 127-year history.

That campaign also saw Bournemouth string together a record-breaking 18-game unbeaten run, the longest of any side in Europe’s top five leagues, with Scott’s energy, industry and midfield drive proving central to that run.

Now, according to reports, Arsenal have been keen on bolstering their midfield and have been heavily linked with Newcastle’s Guimarães.

However, with an agreement yet to be reached, especially after their latest £70m offer, the London club are now exploring other potential options.

One of the options the club are looking at is Scott, as per the Sun, which claims that Arsenal are set to turn their attention to Scott if they fail to land Guimarães this summer.

Alternative

The report adds that the Premier League champions have been keen admirers of the exciting English midfielder and have now earmarked him as a strong alternative to Guimarães.

However, despite Scott reportedly turning down a contract extension, The Sun adds that Bournemouth remain adamant about retaining the youngster, who is also of keen interest to Chelsea.

Despite already having several midfielders at his disposal, Arsenal are still expected to strengthen the middle of the park, particularly with Christian Nørgaard widely tipped to leave the club.

Although the former Brentford captain has largely served as a squad player, he has proved dependable whenever called upon.

Even so, with his 33rd birthday due in March, signs of inconsistency have become more apparent, including his display in last season’s FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Southampton.

For that reason, pursuing a younger, more energetic and reliable midfielder such as Scott would represent an ideal long-term replacement.
