Arsenal make move to sign Bournemouth’s Alex Scott
Arsenal have reportedly made an approach to sign AFC Bournemouth star Alex Scott, as per transfer journalist Ben Jacobs.
Although the Gunners haven’t made any signings yet this summer, recent reports suggest they have been working hard to refresh the squad and hand Mikel Arteta the necessary tools to defend the Premier League title next season.
The Spanish boss is said to be keen on upgrading the left flank as Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard have entered the final year of their respective contracts.
Moreover, purchasing a new striker is also on Arteta’s agenda, with Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez and Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Now, speaking on the Market Madness podcast, Jacobs states that Arsenal are also interested in reinforcing the midfield department and have made an approach to sign Scott.
However, the North London club’s sporting director, Andrea Berta, works tactically; as a result, he has also made contact to sign Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes and LOSC Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi.
Jacobs said:
“Take everything Berta does very tactically as well, because Guimaraes wasn’t the only midfielder that Arsenal approached. Berta lines up several deals to the point of fruition, whether he thinks there’s a willing seller or not, and that’s why, along with Bruno Guimaraes, there was Alex Scott talks for Arsenal. There have been Bouaddi talks for Arsenal, and no doubt several other central midfielders too, because this is just how Arsenal work.”
Scott to Arsenal
It has been suggested that the Gunners aren’t the only club interested in the 22-year-old, as Manchester United have shifted focus to him after failing to buy Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes.
However, Bournemouth have no intention of letting him leave, although he is set to enter the final two years of his current contract. They are keen on keeping hold of him by tying him down to a fresh term.
Scott, valued at around £43m by Transfermarkt, is a technically gifted box-to-box midfielder by trait but is also efficient in the defensive midfield position.
He showed glimpses of his qualities in the Premier League last campaign, helping his side qualify for next season’s Europa League. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future, should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium in this transfer window.
