Arsenal interested in signing Brentford’s Igor Thiago
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Brentford forward Igor Thiago, as per a recent report.
After being impressed by the 24-year-old’s performances for Club Brugge, the Bees decided to purchase him a couple of years ago. However, he couldn’t serve his new club properly during his debut campaign due to a serious knee injury, starting only once in the Premier League.
He showcased his productivity in the last campaign, scoring 25 goals and registering a solitary assist in 40 appearances across all competitions. After being impressed by his performances, Carlo Ancelotti has selected him in Brazil’s World Cup squad.
Now, as per a recent report (via Caught Offside), Arsenal are interested in reinforcing the frontline this summer and have identified the South American as a serious option.
However, the North London club will have to overcome stiff competition to finalise the operation, as Manchester United are also considering making a move for him.
Brentford always play hardball to sell their big assets. Considering his existing deal is set to run until 2031, they are in a strong position to demand a big fee if they are forced to cash-in and have slapped a whopping £77m price tag on his head.
Thiago is a 6ft 3in tall right-footed centre-forward. He is quick, strong, good in the air, efficient in holding up the play, and possesses the poacher instinct inside the box. Moreover, he is efficient in taking penalties and works hard without possession.
Thiago to Arsenal
The Gunners currently have Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, and Viktor Gyokeres as options to deploy in the centre-forward position. However, Jesus has been linked with a move away as he is set to enter the final year of his current contract.
On the other hand, Havertz has had fitness problems in recent years, while Gyokeres displayed inconsistent performances last term, although Arsenal won the Premier League title.
Thiago is a talented player and showcased his goal-scoring prowess in the Premier League last term. He is currently at the prime stage of his career; therefore, the Brazilian might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they eventually manage to purchase him this summer.
