Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a move to sign Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong, as per transfer journalist Ben Jacobs.

After ranking through the Blues’ youth system, the 20-year-old made his first team debut a couple of years ago but hasn’t been able to secure his place in the starting XI yet.

As a result, speculation surrounding his future has started emerging. Now, speaking on the London is Blue Podcast, Jacobs states that Arsenal have expressed their interest in the youngster and could make a concrete approach over the coming weeks.

Despite the youngster’s recent struggles at Stamford Bridge, he isn’t short of potential suitors at the moment, as apart from the Gunners, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich are also keen on him.

However, Chelsea have no intention of parting ways with him, with his existing deal set to run until 2029. Acheampong is valued at around £21m by Transfermarkt, and Arsenal will have to launch an unrefusable proposal to persuade the West London club to let him leave.

Mikel Arteta’s side have continuously been signing players from Chelsea in recent years, with Jorginho, Kai Havertz, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Noni Madueke being a few notable names.

Acheampong is a 6ft 3in tall right-footed centre-back, but can also provide cover in the right-back position if needed, and Arteta likes having versatile defenders.

Acheampong to Arsenal

He is quick, strong, good in the air, technically sound, and comfortable playing out from the back. Moreover, he reads the game well and is efficient in defensive contributions.

Ben White has been struggling with fitness problems in recent years, while Jurrien Timber has also had injury issues since joining from Ajax Amsterdam. On the other hand, Cristhian Mosquera is still very young and needs time to reach his full potential.

So, Arsenal could do with purchasing a new right-footed defender. Acheampong is a talented player and possesses the potential to reach the top.

Therefore, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to finalise the operation during this offseason.
