Arsenal shortlist Frankfurt star Jean-Matteo Bahoya among left-wing targets
Arsenal have shortlisted Bayer Leverkusen forward Jean-Matteo Bahoya among their left-wing targets for next summer, according to Sky Sports.
After climbing up the ranks at Angers, Bahoya made 32 first-team appearances for the French club. Although his record of seven goal contributions in 32 games was not particularly eye-catching, the qualities he showed were enough for Frankfurt to swoop for him in January 2024.
Since arriving in Germany, the forward has shown steady development, improving on his debut campaign’s numbers by recording eight goal involvements across all competitions, despite not being an established starter.
While his output in front of goal is still developing, he continues to trouble opposition defences whenever given opportunities, with his potential clearly visible in every appearance, which could also drive his valuation above his £21m Transfermarkt valuation.
Now, Arsenal’s director Andrea Berta is renowned for usurping some of the best exciting prospects from the clubs he’s worked for.
The same situation is already happening at the Emirates with several exciting prospects, including Jaden Dixon, Evan Mooney and the Ecuadorian twins Holger and Edwin Quintero, all joining in the last two transfer windows.
The next prospect that could join the club is Bahoya, according to Sky Sports, which claims Arsenal have watched the 21-year-old ahead of a possible move to the Emirates Stadium.

The Premier League winners have made signing a left winger one of their priorities for the summer and have been keeping tabs on the France U21 star, among other targets that include Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola and Kvicha Kvaratskhelia.
The Frenchman earned recognition as the quickest player to feature in the Bundesliga since the start of the 2011–12 season, achieving the milestone during Frankfurt’s matchday-26 clash with VfL Bochum in the previous campaign.
He recorded a remarkable top speed of 23.09 mph (37.16 km/h), becoming the first player in the league’s tracked data era to exceed both the 23 mph and 37 km/h thresholds.
For context, Bahoya’s peak speed came strikingly close to Usain Bolt’s average pace of 23.35 mph (37.58 km/h) when he set the 100-metre world record at the 2009 World Championships.
However, despite his pace, his end product still needs refinement. Considering Arsenal’s drop-off in end product at the tail end of last season, the club should prioritise other established players who can make an immediate impact in the team, and Bahoya should only join as a backup.
