Arsenal eye move to sign Leipzig star Yan Diomande
Arsenal are reportedly considering making a move to sign RB Leipzig forward Yan Diomande, as per Sky Sports.
After moving to Red Bull Arena from Spanish side Leganés last summer, the 19-year-old enjoyed a promising debut campaign, scoring 13 goals and registering nine assists in 36 appearances across all competitions.
Moreover, he has helped his side qualify for next season’s Champions League by finishing third in the Bundesliga. After proving his worth in club football, the youngster has secured his place in the Ivory Coast national team’s starting line-up.
He guided his country to the AFCON quarter-finals earlier this year and helped the Elephants beat Ecuador in their opening World Cup group-stage match on Sunday.
Although he failed to register a goal or an assist, he terrorised Arsenal defender Piero Hincapié before being shifted to the opposite flank.
Now, Sky Sports report that Arsenal are prioritising revamping the left flank this summer and have identified Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers as a key target. However, the North London club won’t be able to finalise the operation until the end of his World Cup campaign with England.
Arsenal have also lined up potential alternative options, with Diomande being among them. Moreover, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Bradley Barcola, and Jean-Matteo Bahoya are also on Mikel Arteta’s wishlist. The Gunners liked Anthony Gordon, but he has decided to join Barcelona.
Diomande to Arsenal
Having recently joined Leipzig, Diomande still has a contract until 2030. So, Leipzig aren’t in any rush to sell him and have slapped a whopping more than £86m price tag on his head to keep the vultures away. Apart from Arsenal, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on purchasing him.
Diomande is a versatile forward as he is comfortable on either flank. He is quick, strong, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, is efficient in creating opportunities for fellow attackers, and also works hard without possession.
The Leipzig star is considered one of the best young forwards in the world and would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium by defeating other clubs in this race.
