Arsenal make enquiries over deal to sign Marco Palestra

By on June 4, 2026

Arsenal have made enquiries over the possible transfer of Atalanta’s fullback Marco Palestra to the Emirates Stadium this summer, as per Nicolo Schira.

Palestra has broken through as one of the most exciting young full-backs not just in Serie A but across European football, following what proved to be his breakout season last year.

Originally arriving at Cagliari on loan to provide cover for Gabriel Zappa, the 20-year-old quickly forced his way into a regular starting role, going on to feature in 37 of their 38 league fixtures under Fabio Pisacane and playing a key part in the club’s survival, as they finished nine points clear of the relegation zone.

Those eye-catching displays at club level earned him a place in Italy’s squad during the March international break under Gennaro Gattuso, where he marked the occasion with a debut appearance in the World Cup play-off knockout games against Northern Ireland and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Having made his mark at both club and international levels, the youngster is widely expected to find himself at the centre of considerable transfer attention this summer, with several clubs, including Arsenal, eyeing a move.

This is according to Nicolo Schira, who claims that Arsenal have been closely monitoring Plaestra throughout last season, ahead of a potential summer swoop.

The journalist adds that the Gunners have made formal enquiries over the possibility of the 21-year-old’s transfer to the Emirates Stadium.

Ben White replacement?

With three years left in his contract with Atalanta, the Bergamo-based outfit will be looking to get full value for their prized asset, and it’s no surprise Schira reports that the club have placed a £43m valuation on the youngster.

However, Arsenal face stern competition from Newcastle United, Manchester City and Inter Milan in the race to sign Palestra this summer, Schira adds.

A closer look at Serie A statistics this season shows just how ready Palestra is to step up to the next level.

The young full-back has been outstanding in one-v-one situations, winning a sky-high 248 duels so far, a figure higher than any current Arsenal player achieved last season.

His record placed him on top of the Serie A chart for most duels won, 11 more than Parma’s Mateo Pellegrino.

His 85.1% pass success rate and 70 successful dribbles underline his on-ball qualities and suitability for highly technical teams like Arsenal.

With other clubs showing interest, the Gunners will need to act swiftly to complete the transfer, especially given Ben White’s expected departure this summer.
