Arsenal ready to hijack Barcelona’s deal to sign Alvarez
Arsenal are reportedly preparing to hijack Barcelona’s deal to sign Julian Alvarez, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
Since joining Atletico Madrid from Manchester City, the 26-year-old has showcased his productivity, making 66 goal contributions combined over the last two seasons.
However, he hasn’t won any major silverware. As a result, it has been widely suggested that the Argentinian is open to leaving this summer to take a new challenge in his career.
Now, Fichajes state that following Robert Lewandowski’s departure, Barcelona are keen on purchasing Alvarez to replace the former Bayern Munich star.
The Blaugrana have even launched a formal £86m proposal to persuade Los Rojiblancos to let him leave. However, Diego Simeone’s side have no intention of selling their star man to a direct rival.
They have slapped a whopping £130m price tag on the South American’s head to keep the vultures away, with his existing deal set to run until 2030. However, Arsenal have the financial muscle to seal the deal by matching Atletico Madrid’s asking price.
Despite winning the Premier League title this season, Arsenal are considering reinforcing the No.9 position and have identified Alvarez as a serious option.
Alvarez to Arsenal
Arsenal are even ready to hijack Barcelona’s deal by submitting a formal £130m proposal. If the Gunners eventually launch the bid, the Spanish side might be open to accepting the offer.
Having previously enjoyed great success with Manchester City, Alvarez is already familiar with the Premier League’s physicality. So, he shouldn’t take much time to adapt if he eventually moves to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Arsenal currently have Kai Havertz, Viktor Gyokeres, and Gabriel Jesus as options to deploy in the centre-forward position. However, the Swedish international displayed inconsistent performances in his debut campaign in the Premier League.
On the other hand, Havertz and Jesus have struggled with fitness problems in recent years. The Brazilian is even set to enter the final year of his current contract, so his long-term future isn’t secured at the Emirates Stadium.
Alvarez is one of the best forwards in the world and is currently at the prime stage of his career. So, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they eventually manage to purchase him.
