Arsenal eyeing move for Porto forward William Gomes

By on June 2, 2026

Arsenal have expressed interest in signing highly rated FC Porto Brazilian winger William Gomes this summer, according to CaughtOffside

The 20-year-old moved to the Estádio do Dragão on a permanent deal in January after showing huge promise after coming through the ranks at São Paulo.

Regular first-team opportunities were not particularly forthcoming during his time at former club São Paulo, with Gomes managing just 20 senior appearances despite many Brazilian sides’ willingness to place faith in teenage talent.

That limited exposure has done little to slow his development, however. Since joining Porto, his first 57 games have produced 14 goals and two assists, with the attacker most often operating from the right wing.

The current campaign has seen him reach another level altogether. In the Primeira Liga, he recorded eight goals and one assist, averaging a goal every 146 minutes despite starting only nine matches, and accumulated 15 goal contributions in all competitions.

His efficiency in the final third has been particularly impressive, as he only missed one big chance while also creating six for his teammates, and that prolific form is now gathering interest from Premier League clubs.

One of the clubs eyeing a move for Gomes is Arsenal, according to CaughtOffside, which claims that the north Londoners have expressed interest in signing the 20-year-old in the summer.

Exciting forward

The report adds that the Gunners boss, Mikel Arteta, is looking to add a young attacking prospect to his attack, with the potential to grow into a key member of his squad.

While Gomes is unlikely to become a regular starter, the Brazilian is considered an investment in the club’s future, according to the report.

However, with his contract running until 2029, CaughtOffside states that Porto are in no hurry to sell and are expected to demand a significant fee for the exciting winger whose contract includes a £69m release clause.

Having shown such efficiency in front of goal with little playing time, it’s no surprise interest is expected to grow, with the report adding that Manchester United and Atlético Madrid, AS Roma and Newcastle United are all set to battle with Arsenal to sign Gomes this summer.

While the Brazilian gem is undoubtedly an exciting prospect with a bright future, spending £69m on a player who won’t be a guaranteed starter and isn’t yet the finished product might not be the best investment; the Gunners should instead prioritise more established players who can further improve their squad next season.
