Arsenal ‘pushing hard’ to sign Atletico’s Julian Alvarez
Arsenal are reportedly ‘pushing hard’ to sign Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, as per TEAMtalk.
After moving to the Emirates Stadium from Sporting CP last summer, Viktor Gyokeres has helped his side win the Premier League title this campaign.
However, he has displayed inconsistent performances, scoring 21 goals and registering three assists in 53 appearances across all competitions.
Apart from the Swedish international, Arsenal currently have Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus as striker options. However, both have struggled with fitness problems in recent years, with the Brazilian being linked with a move away as his current deal is set to expire at the end of next season.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal are planning to upgrade the centre-forward position during the offseason to maintain the momentum next season and are ‘pushing hard’ to sign Alvarez.
Since joining Los Rojiblancos from Manchester City, the Argentinian has showcased his productivity over the last two seasons, but hasn’t won any major silverware.
As a result, he is open to leaving to take a new challenge in his career. Alvarez’s preferred destination was Barcelona, and the Blaugrana were keen on purchasing him.
Alvarez to Arsenal
However, Hansi Flick’s side don’t have the financial flexibility to seal the deal, with Atletico Madrid demanding more than £100m to let him leave. So, Alvarez’s representatives have started exploring other options, and PSG have also expressed their interest in him.
Arsenal are preparing to launch a swap deal proposal to sign the South American, and are ready to include Gabriel Martinelli following his below-average performances in recent years.
On the other hand, Les Parisiens are looking for a deal similar in structure to Arsenal’s and are ready to include Goncalo Ramos.
Alvarez is currently one of the best forwards in the world and has showcased his qualities for club and country in recent years. Moreover, he previously proved his worth in the Premier League for Man City.
So, Alvarez would be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium by defeating other clubs in this race.
