Arsenal in fierce battle to sign Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers
Arsenal have entered the race to sign Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers in the summer, according to Ekrem Konur.
Rogers has fully justified the excitement and expectations that surrounded him during his development through Manchester City’s academy system.
He first showcased that promise at Middlesbrough, where he registered 16 direct goal contributions at a remarkably young age, and he has continued on the same trajectory since arriving at Villa Park, accumulating 58 goal involvements so far, including 24 this season.
His influence has also stretched onto the European stage, with the youngster playing a major role in Aston Villa’s progression to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals last season, where they were eventually eliminated by eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Rogers has once again remained among Unai Emery’s most influential performers during the current campaign, helping the Villains secure qualification for next season’s Champions League while also reaching the UEFA Europa League final.
It’s no surprise the youngster is attracting interest from several clubs across Europe, including Arsenal, as the summer transfer window fast approaches.
This is according to Konur, who claims that the Premier League champions-elect have expressed interest in signing the 23-year-old in the summer.
Fierce battle
However, with five years left in his contract, a deal won’t be easy, as the journalist adds that Villa have placed an £80m valuation on the England international amid keen interest from the Gunners.
Competition for Rogers’ signature is also expected to be fierce, with Chelsea, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain all set to battle with Arsenal for the England international’s signature, according to the report.
Mikel Arteta currently possesses Martin Ødegaard and Eberechi Eze as his primary attacking midfield options, while Kai Havertz has also been utilised in the position on occasion.
Ethan Nwaneri, who is presently on loan at Olympique de Marseille, is likewise regarded as a capable solution for the role, although he currently sits behind the aforementioned pair in the squad hierarchy.
Even so, growing speculation in recent months surrounding Ødegaard’s possible summer exit could force Arsenal to pursue a replacement.
This makes Rogers a viable option, as he does not just offer a capable attacking threat from the middle; he can also operate seamlessly on the flank, where he has proven to be more effective.
