Arsenal hold talks to sign Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries
Arsenal have reportedly made contact to sign Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries, as per TEAMtalk.
Since moving to Giuseppe Meazza Stadium from Eredivisie giants PSV Eindhoven back in 2021, the 30-year-old has enjoyed great success, winning two Serie A titles and several other major cup competitions.
The Netherlands international even helped the Nerazzurri reach the Champions League final twice before losing to Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.
This season, the fullback has had fitness problems; still, he has showcased his productivity, making seven goal contributions across all competitions. Moreover, he has helped his side keep five clean sheets.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that after proving his worth in Italy, Dumfries is open to leaving Inter this summer to take a new challenge in his career, and the Premier League is his preferred destination.
The player’s representatives are ‘actively pushing’ to find a suitable destination for him. Arsenal have been contacted and made aware of the Dutchman’s desire, while Mikel Arteta’s side remain attentive to opportunities to reinforce the squad this summer. So, they could make a move to secure his service.
However, Manchester City and Liverpool have also been offered the chance to sign the 30-year-old. Following Conor Bradley’s fitness problems this season, the Reds are considering signing a new right-back, and Arne Slot ‘admires’ his compatriot very much.
Dumfries to Arsenal
The defender has a release clause worth just over £20m, and Arsenal can trigger the clause in July, with his existing deal set to run until 2028.
Dumfries, standing at 6ft 2in tall, is an attack-minded right-back and has showcased his best as an RWB at Giuseppe Meazza Stadium. He is quick, strong, good in the air, and efficient in defensive contributions.
The Inter star is a top-class player and possesses the necessary physical attributes to flourish in the Premier League. So, he would be a shrewd signing for Arsenal, despite turning 31 next year, as he is expected to be available for a bargain fee.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services during the offseason.
