Arsenal eye move to sign Frankfurt’s Jean‑Mattéo Bahoya
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Eintracht Frankfurt star Jean‑Mattéo Bahoya, as per a recent German report.
Since moving to Deutsche Bank Park from Angers a couple of years ago, the 20-year-old has been featuring as a rotational option. In 10 Bundesliga starts last term, he made five goal contributions and helped his side qualify for the Champions League.
This season, the Frenchman has commenced 17 matches across all competitions, scoring four goals and registering as many assists. Moreover, he has been helping his team to push for a European place finish.
Now, while citing and translating the print version of SportBILD, Sport Witness report that, after being drawn to Bahoya’s recent performances, Arsenal have registered their interest in signing him.
The North London club have been monitoring the youngster’s development closely before making a potential swoop in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Frankfurt are a selling club but usually play hardball to let their star assets leave. With Bahoya’s existing deal set to run until 2029, the Eagles want around £35m.
However, the report state that purchasing the Frankfurt star won’t be straightforward for the Gunners as several other Premier League clubs are also in this race.
Bahoya to Arsenal
Bahoya is a right-footed left-winger by trait but is also efficient in the creative midfield position. Furthermore, he can provide cover in the centre-forward position if needed.
The Frenchman is an explosive winger and is efficient in dribbling past opposition defenders in tight areas. He likes to cut inside and shoot, but can also link up the play.
With Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard struggling with consistency, refreshing the left flank would be the right decision for Arsenal. The Belgian has even entered his 30s, and his existing deal is set to expire at the end of next season.
Bahoya is a talented player and could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future should they purchase him. However, he is still very young and needs time to reach his full potential.
Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually make a concrete approach to sign the Frankfurt star during the offseason.
