Arsenal eye move to sign AS Monaco star Vanderson
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing AS Monaco star Vanderson, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The Gunners currently have Ben White and Jurrien Timber as options to deploy in the right-back position. Moreover, Cristhian Mosquera can provide cover in this area if needed.
White used to be an integral part of Mikel Arteta’s starting line-up, but has now been playing as a backup option due to his persistent fitness problems in recent years, and Timber has been featuring regularly.
Although the former Brighton star’s existing deal is set to run until 2028, it has been suggested that the Gunners are open to cashing-in on him this summer.
Now, Fichajes state that reinforcing the right-back position is an ‘absolute priority’ for Arsenal if White leaves, and they have identified Vanderson as a serious option.
The 24-year-old is set to enter the final two years of his current contract, and considering Monaco are a selling club, they might be open to cashing-in on him this summer, with the player valued at around £17m by Transfermarkt.
Apart from the Ligue 1 star, Arsenal have also shortlisted Wesley Franca of AS Monaco as a potential option to strengthen the right side of the defence.
Vanderson to Arsenal
Vanderson is a right-back by trait but is also efficient in the RWB position. He is quick and efficient in defensive contributions. After joining the Red and Whites from Brazilian side Gremio, he established himself as a key starter.
However, the Brazilian has struggled to play regularly this season due to fitness problems. He has even recently sustained a hamstring issue, which is set to keep him out of action for the rest of this season.
Vanderson is a talented player and could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future should they purchase him. But Mikel Arteta’s side need to be careful about his recent fitness problems before making any potential swoop.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to lure him to the Emirates Stadium in the upcoming summer transfer window to bolster the right-back position.
