Arsenal remain keen on signing Atletico’s Julian Alvarez
Arsenal reportedly remain keen on signing Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, as per TEAMtalk.
After enjoying great success at Manchester City, the 26-year-old joined Los Rojiblancos a couple of years ago. He showcased his productivity in La Liga last term, making 36 goal contributions across all competitions.
This season, the striker has continued to display impressive performances, scoring 17 goals and registering eight assists in 43 appearances in all tournaments.
Diego Simeone’s side defeated Tottenham Hotspur 7-5 on aggregate in the Champions League last-16, with the Argentinian involved in five of those goals.
Alongside enjoying great success in club football, Alvarez has won two Copa Americas and a World Cup with Argentina.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal are keen on purchasing the South American and have been monitoring his development closely before making a potential swoop.
The Gunners’ scouts were present to watch Alvarez in action against Tottenham on Wednesday, where he impressed by scoring a goal and registering an assist.
However, purchasing Alvarez won’t be straightforward for the North London club, as Chelsea are also in this race and their scouts were keeping a close eye on his performance as well in midweek.
Alvarez to Arsenal
The Atletico star is prepared to leave this summer to take a new challenge in his career, and his preferred destination is Barcelona. However, the Blaugrana might struggle to secure his service due to their financial difficulties.
If the Catalan giants eventually fail to sign him, he is ready to return to the Premier League, but he wants to play in London. So, Arsenal have a chance to seal the deal.
With Alvarez’s existing deal set to run until 2030, Atletico Madrid are in a strong position to demand a huge fee to sell him, with the player valued at around £78m by Transfermarkt.
Alvarez has proven his worth at the highest level in recent years and is currently at the prime stage of his career. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually manage to secure his service in the upcoming summer transfer window.
