Arsenal keen on signing Newcastle’s Valentino Livramento
Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Newcastle United defender Valentino Livramento, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The Gunners currently have Jurrien Timber and Ben White as options to deploy in the right-back position. Moreover, Cristhian Mosquera can provide cover in this role if needed.
However, the Englishman has struggled with fitness problems in recent years; as a result, he has found himself on the periphery. So, speculation surrounding his future has started emerging.
Now, Fichajes state that Arsenal are planning to refresh the right side of the defence and have identified Livramento as an ‘ideal’ option after being impressed by his recent performances.
However, Manchester City are also interested in the Englishman, meaning the North London club will have to overcome stiff competition to finalise the operation.
With Livramento’s existing deal set to run until 2028, Newcastle aren’t in any rush to sell him and want a ‘substantial’ proposal. Arsenal are even prepared to launch a lucrative bid to persuade the Magpies to let him leave.
After coming through Chelsea’s youth system, the 23-year-old joined Southampton to play regularly and develop his career. Having been impressed by the youngster’s performances at St Mary’s Stadium, Newcastle decided to purchase him in 2023.
Livramento to Arsenal
The Englishman is an extremely quick right-back but is also comfortable on the opposite side. He is solid in defensive contributions and has proven his worth in the Premier League.
Livramento is an extremely talented player and isn’t a finished article yet. So, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future should they purchase him.
However, Livramento, valued at around £34m by Transfermarkt, has struggled with fitness problems this season, so Arsenal need to be careful about that before making any potential swoop for him.
Nevertheless, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to lure him to the Emirates Stadium in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Meanwhile, following a comfortable 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League, Arsenal are set to face off against Man City in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium this weekend.
