Arsenal in pole position to sign Leverkusen’s Kofane

Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen forward Christian Kofane, as per a recent report.

After moving to BayArena from Albacete last summer, the 19-year-old has played as a rotational option under Kasper Hjulmand this season.

Still, he has showcased his productivity, scoring seven goals and notching up five assists in 17 starts across all competitions. Moreover, he has been helping his side to push for a European place finish in the Bundesliga.

The youngster started in both the Champions League last-16 matches against Arsenal. Although he didn’t register any goal contributions, he showed his ability to hold up play.

After showing glimpses of his qualities for Leverkusen, Kofane has secured his place in the Cameroonian national team, scoring twice in four AFCON matches.

Now, as per a recent report (via TEAMtalk), Kofane’s recent eye-catching performances haven’t gone unnoticed, as he has started attracting a lot of attention ahead of the summer window.

Chelsea hold a long-term interest in the African. But La Liga giants, Real Madrid and Barcelona, are plotting a swoop for him as well, with the Blaugrana exploring options to replace Robert Lewandowski.

Kofane to Arsenal

Moreover, Arsenal are interested in Kofane as a potential option to replace Gabriel Jesus, and Mikel Arteta’s side are currently leading the race to sign the Leverkusen star.

Having recently joined Hjulmand’s side, the forward still has a contract until 2029, and Leverkusen want at least £52m if they are forced to cash-in on him.

Since moving to the Emirates Stadium from Sporting CP last summer, Viktor Gyokeres has established himself as an undisputed starter in the striker position.

Moreover, Mikel Arteta has Kai Havertz as an option to support Gyokeres. So, even if Jesus leaves, Arsenal have two strikers, but the German has struggled with fitness problems in recent years. Therefore, perhaps Arsenal are considering signing a new striker.

Kofane is a highly talented player and possesses the necessary attributes to flourish at the highest level. So, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in the summer.
