Caleb Yirenkyi

Arsenal are reportedly in a fierce battle with Premier League rivals to sign FC Nordsjaelland star Caleb Yirenkyi, as per TEAMtalk.

The Gunners currently have Martin Zubimendi, Declan Rice, Mikel Merino, and Christian Norgaard as options to deploy in the deeper midfield positions.

However, Merino has been out for several weeks after sustaining a serious injury against Manchester United in a Premier League fixture earlier this year.

On the other hand, since joining from Brentford, Norgaard has struggled to find regular game time thus far this season, failing to start a Premier League fixture.

The 32-year-old has even signed a short-term contract until 2027, with Arsenal having an option to extend his deal for one more year. So, it appears Mikel Arteta has already started exploring options to replace him.

Now, TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal have registered their interest in Yirenkyi after monitoring his development extensively and could make a concrete approach during the offseason.

However, purchasing the 20-year-old won’t be straightforward, as Manchester United, Chelsea, and Liverpool have also been keeping a close eye on his performances.

Baleba to Arsenal

Furthermore, Brighton & Hove Albion have identified Yirenkyi as a serious option to replace Carlos Baleba, who has been linked with a move away since last summer. The Seagulls are even confident to lure the youngster to AMEX Stadium.

Scouts from several clubs were present to watch the player in action against FC Midtjylland in a crucial Danish Super League fixture on Sunday, where he impressed.

Since joining Nordsjaelland from the famous Ghanaian academy Right to Dream, Yirenkyi has established himself as a key starter, netting twice and registering five assists in 22 league appearances this term.

He is a versatile player as he is comfortable in the defensive midfield and box-to-box roles. Furthermore, he can provide cover in the right-back and centre-back positions.

Yirenkyi is a talented player and possesses high potential. So, he might be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal to add depth to the midfield department if they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to secure his service in the upcoming summer transfer window.
