Mikel Arteta wants Arsenal to sign Karl Etta Eyong
Arsenal are plotting a swoop to sign Levante centre-forward Karl Etta Eyong, according to Fichajes.
Eyong is one of the brightest emerging young prospects in Spain. Born in Douala, the talented forward spent much of his early development in Cameroon before moving to Spain in January 2022 to join Cádiz.
He arrived at Villarreal in the summer of 2024 and still displayed strong scoring form despite largely playing behind Thierno Barry, who later departed to join Everton.
Across his spell with the Yellow Submarines, he produced an impressive return of 25 goals in 30 matches, a tally that attracted attention from several clubs before he completed a move to Levante last summer.
Since joining the Valencia-based side, the Cameroonian forward has scored six times and recorded four assists, giving him the most goal contributions on the squad.
Now, according to Fichajes, Arsenal are looking to bolster their centre-forward ranks, and Mikel Arteta has now set his sights on Eyong as a viable option for that role.
Arteta wants Eyong
The 22-year-old’s performances have caught the eye of several clubs, but the Gunners are ‘favourites’ to sign him and are looking to exploit Levante’s financial constraints, according to the report.
Having rejected a lucrative move to Russia, Fichajes adds that Eyong wants to prove himself at the biggest European clubs, and Levante have set a £34m valuation on the youngster, a fee well within the reach of the North London club.
Beyond finishing ability, success in duels is a vital quality in the Premier League given its physical style of play. That attribute is likely among the factors that have attracted Arsenal’s interest in Eyong.
While Viktor Gyökeres posts a higher 50% duel success rate, Gabriel Jesus records only 31.5%, a comparatively low figure that could make Eyong (43.1%) a strong option for Arteta’s high-octane, relentless pressing system.
He also performs well in other metrics, including successful passes (69.2%), accurate long balls (63.6%), and an xG of 7.31, according to FotMob.
His 50 recoveries and 18 clearances, despite being a centre-forward, also indicate his tirelessness and combativeness in winning the ball back for his team.
With Arteta keen on adding Eyong, it’ll be interesting to see what decision is made on the future of Gabriel Jesus, whose contract at the Emirates Stadium runs out next year.
