Arsenal in fierce battle to sign Frankfurt’s Nnamdi Collins
Arsenal are reportedly in a fierce battle with Premier League rivals to sign Eintracht Frankfurt star Nnamdi Collins, as per TEAMtalk.
After moving to the Deutsche Bank Park from Borussia Dortmund in 2023, the 22-year-old initially played as a rotational option before establishing himself as a key starter this campaign.
In 19 Bundesliga appearances, Collins has made two goal contributions and kept a solitary clean sheet. Moreover, he has been helping his side push for a European place finish.
Now, TEAMtalk claim that Arsenal are interested in Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown, and while monitoring his development, the Gunners have been impressed by Collins.
With Ben White struggling with fitness problems in recent seasons, Arsenal are planning to refresh the right side of the defence and are looking to sign a similar type of versatile defender as the Englishman. Therefore, the North London club could make a concrete approach to secure Collins’ services in the summer.
However, Arsenal will have to overcome stiff competition to seal the deal as Liverpool, Manchester City, Newcastle United, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Brentford are all in this race as they have identified the youngster as an ‘attractive option’.
However, the report state that Frankfurt want a significant fee to let the German, valued at around £13m by Transfermarkt, leave, with his existing deal set to run until 2030.
Collins to Arsenal
Collins is a 6ft 3in tall right-footed centre-back but is comfortable in the right-back position. He has been playing as an RCB in a back three at Frankfurt this season.
Arsenal currently have William Saliba, Cristhian Mosquera, White, and Jurrien Timber as options to deploy in the RCB and RB positions. However, amid White’s recent fitness problems, Timber has been taking on enormous workloads this season.
With White linked with a move away, Arsenal would have to sign a new defender if he eventually leaves in the summer. Collins is a talented player and could be an ideal option to replace the former Brighton star.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to secure his service ahead of the next campaign.
