Arsenal in fierce battle to sign Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown
Arsenal are reportedly in a fierce battle to sign Eintracht Frankfurt star Nathaniel Brown, as per Caught Offside.
The Eagles have endured a dire campaign thus far this season, languishing in mid-table in the Bundesliga. Moreover, they have been knocked out of the Champions League after finishing 33rd in the table and have also been eliminated from the DFB Pokal.
Still, Brown has shown glimpses of his qualities this season, scoring three goals and registering six assists across all competitions. Moreover, he has helped his side keep four clean sheets.
Now, Caught Offside claim that, having been impressed by the 22-year-old’s recent eye-catching performances, Arsenal have registered their interest in signing him.
However, the Gunners will have to overcome fierce competition to seal the deal as Manchester United, Liverpool, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and Tottenham Hotspur are also in this race.
The report state that Arsenal and Man Utd are currently ‘leading the way’ to sign Brown, but Frankfurt are unlikely to allow their key player to leave for cheap, with his existing deal set to run until 2030. They are prepared to accept around £57m but initially asked for a higher fee.
Brown is a left-footed left-back by trait, but is also comfortable in the LWB position as he is an attack-minded player. After showing glimpses of his qualities in the Bundesliga, he has secured his place in the Germany squad.
Brown to Arsenal
Brown is extremely quick, technically sound, can play out from the back, is efficient in defensive contributions, and is also comfortable in the inverted fullback role.
Arsenal currently have Piero Hincapié, Riccardo Calafiori, and Myles Lewis-Skelly as options to deploy in the left-back position. However, the Italian has been struggling with fitness problems since joining from Bologna.
On the other hand, Lewis-Skelly has failed to play regularly thus far this season. So, Arsenal could do with signing a new left-back if Calafiori fails to overcome his fitness problems.
Brown is a highly talented young player and could be a shrewd acquisition for the North London club should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his service in the upcoming summer transfer window.
