Arsenal eye move to sign Bayern Munich’s Leon Goretzka

By on February 11, 2026

Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a move to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka, as per Football Insider.

The Gunners currently have Martin Zubimendi, Declan Rice, Mikel Merino, and Christian Norgaard as options to deploy in the deeper midfield positions.

However, Norgaard has struggled to find regular game time thus far this season after joining from Brentford last year, failing to start any Premier League matches.

On the other hand, Merino has been ruled out for an extended period, having fractured his foot. As a result, Zubimendi and Rice are the only trusted midfield options Mikel Arteta currently has at his disposal.

Following Merino’s injury, the North London club reportedly attempted to sign a new midfielder late in the winter window. Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali was heavily linked with a move on deadline day.

Now, Football Insider state that Arsenal expressed their interest in signing Goretzka in January but didn’t make a concrete approach.

Still, they remain interested in him and have been ‘keeping a very close eye’ on his situation ahead of a potential summer swoop, with the 31-year-old set to leave Bayern Munich as a free agent at the end of this season.

Goretzka to Arsenal

However, the report claim that purchasing the midfielder won’t be straightforward for Arteta’s side as Tottenham Hotspur are currently the favourites in this race.

Goretzka is a box-to-box midfielder by trait and has enjoyed great success at Bayern Munich over the years, winning every possible major competition.

Moreover, he has been helping his side mount a title charge in the Bundesliga this season and has been a key player in the German national team.

Norgaard has signed a short-term contract until the end of next season, and Arsenal have an option to extend his deal for one more year. However, if he continues to struggle over the coming months, the Gunners could do with signing a new midfielder.

Goretzka, standing at 6ft 2in tall, is an experienced player and could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services in the summer transfer window.
