Arsenal plotting Napoli’s Scott McTominay return
Arsenal are reportedly exploring a move to bring Scott McTominay back to the Premier League, according to reports from Italian outlet AreaNapoli.
The Gunners are said to be tracking the midfielder closely after his strong spell in Italy. His form has placed him back on the radar of English clubs.
McTominay joined Napoli in the summer of 2024 in a deal worth £26 million. Since then, he has become a key figure in the Italian side’s midfield.
The 29-year-old has impressed with his work rate, leadership, and goals from midfield. His influence has grown steadily over the course of his time in Serie A.
During the 2024/25 campaign, McTominay played a major role in Napoli’s title-winning season. His performances were central to their success across the league.
That same season ended with individual recognition. McTominay was named Serie A MVP after consistent displays at the heart of Napoli’s team.
Napoli Plan New Contract Talks
Despite Arsenal interest, any move for McTominay is expected to be very difficult. Napoli are keen to keep hold of one of their most important players.
Reports suggest the club have already planned talks over a new contract. Discussions are expected to take place once the season comes to an end.
Napoli are aiming to extend McTominay’s deal until 2031. The club sees him as a long-term leader within the squad.
McTominay has already shown he is not easily tempted away. In recent months, he turned down approaches from clubs in Saudi Arabia.
Those offers included a reported wage of £13 million per season after tax. An additional £2.6 million was also proposed in bonuses.
Huge Price Tag Set for Sale
Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis has placed a very high value on McTominay. He is only prepared to listen to offers above £86 million, as per the report.
That price is the level Arsenal would need to reach to open talks. The Gunners could also face competition as Tottenham are also reportedly showing an interest in bringing the Scottish international back to England.
Alongside the transfer fee, McTominay’s wage demands are expected to be significant. For Arsenal, the situation remains complex. Admiration exists, but Napoli are firmly in control of the player’s future.
Unless circumstances change, a return to England appears unlikely in the short term. Napoli are determined to keep their midfield star.
