Arsenal ready to go ‘all in’ to sign Julian Alvarez
Arsenal are reportedly prepared to go ‘all in’ to sign Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, as per a recent Spanish report.
The Gunners decided to reinforce the squad by signing eight new players last summer. Still, Mikel Arteta hinted that they were ready to make a move in the winter window if an opportunity arises.
Eventually, Arsenal opted not to add any new players before the February 2nd transfer deadline, although Mikel Merino is set to remain sidelined for an extended period, having fractured his foot.
The North London club have enjoyed a stellar campaign thus far this season, sitting at the top of the Premier League table with a six point lead. Moreover, they won every eight matches in the Champions League league phase; as a result, they have reached the round of 16 automatically.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have already started exploring options to reinforce the squad next summer to maintain their level. As per a recent report (via TEAMtalk), Arteta’s side are looking for a marquee centre-forward acquisition despite buying Viktor Gyokeres last summer and have identified Alvarez as the ‘No.1 target’.
Los Rojiblancos are prepared to cash-in on the Argentinian international, giving Arsenal the ‘confidence’ to finalise the deal as they are ready to go ‘all in’.
Arteta and sporting director, Andrea Berta, already have a plan in place to sign Alvarez and are ready to match Atletico Madrid’s £87m asking price.
Alvarez to Arsenal
Arsenal decided to reinforce the centre-forward position by purchasing Gyokeres last summer. However, he has struggled to replicate his Liga Portugal form in the Premier League thus far, scoring six goals in 22 league appearances.
On the other hand, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz have struggled with fitness problems in recent years. So, Arsenal could do with upgrading the front line during the offseason.
Alvarez is one of the best forwards in the world and has proven his worth at the highest level. He even has Premier League experience, having enjoyed great success with Manchester City.
Therefore, the South American would be a great coup for Arsenal should they eventually manage to secure his service in the summer.
