Arsenal links to Sandro Tonali played down

Arsenal have seen recent reports linking them with Sandro Tonali firmly dismissed by a trusted source. The claims have been described as wide of the mark and not based on any real talks.
Reports online claimed that Arsenal were working on a potential deal for Tonali with Newcastle United demanding £100m for the Italian international.
However, journalist Luke Edwards of The Telegraph has moved to shut down the rumours. He stated that suggestions of Arsenal pushing for Tonali are simply not true.
This talk followed injury worries inside Mikel Arteta’s midfield group. However, the situation has now been made clear by reliable voices close to the matter.
Tonali links dismissed
Tonali joined Newcastle from AC Milan and remains a key figure at the club. Despite recent speculation, there has been no approach or contact from Arsenal.
Sources insist that the idea of talks taking place is incorrect. There is no plan in place to prise the Italy international away from Newcastle.
Arsenal were linked with the midfielder after Mikel Merino suffered a serious injury. The setback has ruled Merino out for a long stretch of the season.
Merino has grown into an important player under Arteta in recent months. With his absence confirmed, Arsenal have been checking the market for cover.
The club want to stay prepared ahead of the January transfer deadline. That search has led to several names being mentioned in reports.
Tonali was one of those players, but the link has now been dismissed. Arsenal are understood to be calm about the situation for now.
The coaching staff believe the squad still has enough depth in midfield areas.
January window plans remain under review
Arteta and the recruitment team continue to weigh up their next move. They are expected to be careful rather than rush into a deal.
Any winter signing would need to fit both the style and the budget. Arsenal are also keen to protect the balance within the dressing room.
There is no pressure to bring in a big name just for the sake of it. The club prefers players who can settle quickly and offer clear value.
For now, the focus remains on results and keeping the squad competitive, while assessing late options for Mikel Merino.
Any new arrival will only come if the right chance presents itself.
