Arsenal tipped to sign Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon

By on January 27, 2026

Former Arsenal defender Emmanuel Eboue has urged his old club to reinforce the left flank by purchasing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United next summer.

The Gunners decided to sign Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, and Eberechi Eze last year to strengthen the frontline. However, they didn’t sign a specialist left-winger, with Mikel Arteta using Eze as Martin Odegaard’s deputy.

At the moment, the Spanish boss has Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard as the left-wing options. The Belgian has showcased his qualities thus far this season, making 13 goal contributions across all competitions. However, he is set to turn 32 later this year and has entered the final 18 months of his current contract.

On the other hand, Martinelli has made 10 goal contributions in all tournaments this season, but most of his goals have come in the cup competitions, netting only once in the Premier League.

Now, during a recent interview (via Chronicle Live), Eboue states that Arsenal need to upgrade the left flank next summer and Gordon would be a ‘very good’ acquisition should they purchase him.

The 24-year-old has been displaying ‘great’ performances for Newcastle since joining from Everton and has also proven his worth in the Champions League.

Eboue said:

“I’m not surprised if Arsenal are thinking of getting Gordon because if he comes to Arsenal, I know that he will do very well. He’s a very good winger. If he comes to Arsenal, he will help the team a lot.

“Because I’m surprised by how well he plays. He’s changed the way he plays. In the Champions League, he’s been great for Newcastle. I think if next year Arsenal think about getting Gordon, it would be very good.”

Arsenal urged to sign Gordon

Gordon is valued at around £52m by Transfermarkt and has a contract until 2030. Therefore, Newcastle are in a strong position to demand a huge fee if they are forced to cash-in at the end of this season.

After helping Newcastle secure Champions League football last term, Gordon has continued to display promising performances this season, making 13 goal contributions across all competitions.

Having displayed eye-catching performances at St James’ Park, the forward has secured his place in the England national team.

He is a talented player and isn’t a finished article yet. So, he might be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually listen to Eboue’s advice and sign Gordon next summer.
