Arteta responds to Guardiola’s Arsenal praise

By on January 24, 2026

Mikel Arteta has addressed comments made by Pep Guardiola, who claimed Arsenal are the best team in the world.

Speaking before Arsenal’s important match against Manchester United at the Emirates, Arteta downplayed the praise. He insisted the team’s focus is on improving.

On Guardiola calling Arsenal the best team in the world, Arteta said:

“I do not know. I think we are the team that wants to be constantly better, that we are doing a lot of things right, but we are far from perfect, and our only aim is to sustain the level that we are doing, but especially in certain areas, try to improve again.”

The manager stressed that the team’s main goal is steady progress rather than chasing labels.

He believes continuous improvement matters more than public recognition.

Arteta appreciates positive words

Arteta was also asked if it is nice to hear Guardiola praise the team. He replied:

It is always much better to hear positive things about your team and the work that you are doing but obviously that is a big word especially because in my opinion to be related to that you have to win a lot of things and we have not but we certainly have the purpose to be the best version that we can be every single day and we are not going to stop until we achieve that.”

He highlighted that, while compliments are welcome, Arsenal remain focused on becoming their best every day. Arteta emphasised the importance of long-term goals.

Arsenal will aim to secure maximum points against Manchester United in their Premier League push. The Gunners are determined to continue their strong form and improve where needed.

The team is concentrating on consistent performances and maintaining a high level, rather than being distracted by external opinions. Arteta has made it clear that perfection is not yet reached.

With their sights firmly on the Premier League title, Arsenal will continue to build on their work.

Every match is seen as an opportunity to grow and improve further under Arteta’s guidance.
