Arsenal plot swoop to sign Crvena Zvezda’s Vasilije Kostov

By on January 23, 2026

Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a move to sign FK Crvena Zvezda midfielder Vasilije Kostov, as per Football London.

After ranking through the Serbian giants’ youth system, the 17-year-old made his first team debut at the end of last season before establishing himself as a key starter in Dejan Stankovic’s starting line-up this term.

In 18 starts across all competitions, the youngster has scored seven goals and registered five assists thus far this season. He even managed to put his name on the scoresheet against Malmö in a crucial Europa League clash last night.

Having shown glimpses of his high potential this term, Kostov received a call-up to the Serbian national team in October last year, making his international debut against Albania in a World Cup qualifying fixture.

Now, Football London report that Arsenal have expressed their interest in Kostov after monitoring his development closely in recent times. They even sent scouts to watch him in action against Malmö, where he shone.

So, Arsenal could make a concrete approach to secure his service in January or next summer. However, Mikel Arteta’s side will have to overcome stiff competition to seal the deal as Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are also keen on him.

Red Star Belgrade General Director Zvezdan Terzic has even confirmed that an official proposal worth around £17m has already been made for Kostov, but he didn’t reveal the name of that club.

Kostov to Arsenal

The Serbian’s existing deal is set to run until 2028, meaning Red Star Belgrade are in a strong position to demand a sizable amount of money to let him leave.

Kostov is a creative midfielder by trait but is also comfortable in the box-to-box role. Furthermore, he can provide cover on the right flank if needed. He has been dubbed the ‘Serbian Pedri’ and ‘Balkan Barella’ due to his exceptional technical qualities.

The youngster is efficient in playing threading passes between the lines, has an eye for scoring goals from distance, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, and is also efficient in creating opportunities for fellow attackers.

He is a highly talented player and possesses the potential to reach the top. Therefore, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they were to purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his services.
