Arsenal showing ‘most active’ interest in signing Kroupi
Arsenal are reportedly showing the ‘most active’ interest in signing AFC Bournemouth star Eli Junior Kroupi, as per transfer journalist Ekrem Konur.
After being impressed by the 19-year-old’s performances for Lorient in Ligue 2, the Cherries decided to sign him last winter. However, he didn’t move to Vitality Stadium before the end of last season. In 23 league starts for Lorient previous term, he netted 22 goals and registered two assists.
This season, the Frenchman has been playing as a rotational option under Andoni Iraola but has already showcased his high potential.
In only eight Premier League starts, he has already netted seven goals. The youngster has even scored against Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and the Gunners, which shows he can step up in big matches.
Now, Konur reports that, having been impressed by Kroupi’s recent eye-catching performances, Arsenal have started showing ‘most active’ interest in signing him.
The North London club have been sending scouts regularly to watch him in action before making a potential swoop. Mikel Arteta is looking at Kroupi as a potential replacement for Gabriel Jesus.
Although the Brazilian has displayed eye-catching performances since returning from a lengthy knee injury, Arsenal are ready to let him leave, with Brazilian side Palmeiras leading the race to bring him back.
Kroupi to Arsenal
If Arsenal manage to generate a sizable fee from the former Manchester City man’s departure, they may make a move to sign Kroupi before the February 2nd transfer deadline.
However, Bournemouth might not allow the forward’s departure in mid-season, having already sold Antoine Semenyo. So, the summer move is looking the most likely outcome.
Kroupi’s recent promising performances haven’t just attracted Arsenal’s attention, as Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, and Atalanta are also plotting a swoop.
With the player still having a contract until 2030, Bournemouth are in a strong position to demand a big fee if they are forced to cash-in, with the player valued at around £43m.
Kroupi is a centre-forward by trait but is also comfortable providing cover on the flanks. Moreover, he is efficient in the second striker role.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to secure his service in January or next summer.
