Arsenal showing ‘genuine interest’ in Federico Dimarco
Arsenal are reportedly showing a ‘genuine interest’ in signing Inter Milan defender Federico Dimarco, as per Italian outlet Tutto Sport.
After rising through the Nerazzurri’s youth system, the Italian made his first team debut back in 2014. He initially struggled to break into the starting line-up, so he went out on loan several occasions to play regularly and develop his career.
Inter even decided to sell him permanently to Swiss side FC Sion in 2017 before buying him back in the following year. Still, he struggled to find regular game time at the Italian giants; therefore, he was loaned out again a couple of times.
Former manager Simone Inzaghi made him a key starter at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium, and the 28-year-old has now established himself as one of the best left sided defenders in Serie A.
He has won a Serie A title and a few major domestic cup competitions. Moreover, Dimarco helped his side reach the final of the Champions League twice under Inzaghi.
This season, Dimarco has continued to display impressive performances under new manager Cristian Chivu, making nine goal contributions across all competitions and keeping seven clean sheets.
The defender has even been guiding his side mount a Serie A title charge this season, sitting at the top of the table with a three-point lead from second-place AC Milan.
Dimarco to Arsenal
Now, Tutto Sport report that having been impressed by Dimarco, Arsenal have started showing ‘genuine interest’ in signing him. Manchester United previously expressed their interest in the Italian, with former manager Ruben Amorim pushing for his signature.
However, they are now unlikely to make a move, meaning the Gunners could get a clear pathway to seal the deal should they make a concrete approach.
With the player’s existing deal set to expire at the end of next season, Inter are keen on tying him down to a fresh term with an improved salary. However, Arsenal would be able to sign him in a cut-price deal this year if Inter and Dimarco eventually fail to agree on a fresh deal.
Dimarco, valued at around £43m by Transfermarkt, likes to be deployed in the LWB position but is also efficient in the LB role. He is a top-class player and could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal should they purchase him.
