Arsenal ‘looking to sign’ Blackburn Rovers’ Igor Tyjon
Arsenal are reportedly ‘looking to sign’ Blackburn Rovers centre-forward Igor Tyjon, as per a recent report.
The 17-year-old started his youth career at Rochdale before moving to The Riversiders in 2023. He made his first team debut a couple of years ago but hasn’t been able to secure his place in the first team squad yet.
He has been playing regularly for Blackbuck U21 and was a key player for the England national team in the recently concluded U17 World Cup. The forward helped his side reach the round of 16 before losing to eventual finalist Austria.
Therefore, it appears that having been impressed by the youngster’s recent eye-catching performances, the Gunners have registered their interest in signing him.
As per a recent report (via Football London), Arsenal hold a long-standing interest in Tyjon as they attempted to secure his service last summer and even launched two official proposals.
However, the Championship side turned down both bids, and despite failing to buy him last time around, the North London club hasn’t given up their hopes and are ‘looking to sign’ him finally in this winter transfer window.
Considering Tyjon doesn’t have much senior football experience yet, he is highly unlikely to be involved in the first team squad immediately, should he eventually move to the Emirates Stadium this month.
Tyjon to Arsenal
Instead, he is likely to be involved with the youth team. The Hale End have produced several top-class young talents in recent years, with Bukayo Saka, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Ethan Nwaneri, and Max Dowman being some notable names.
Furthermore, Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi are also Arsenal’s youth system production, but they decided to join Manchester United to play regularly and develop their careers.
Heaven has even established himself as an undisputed starter in the Red Devils’ starting line-up this season amid Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt’s injury absence.
Meaning, Arsenal would be the right destination for Tyjon to develop, and Mikel Arteta has shown that he is efficient in nurturing young players. Tyjon is quick, technically sound, and aggressive in attack.
It is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually manage to secure the Blackbuck Rovers youngster in this winter transfer window.
