Arsenal eye ambitious move to sign Tino Livramento
Arsenal are reportedly planning to launch an ambitious swoop to sign Newcastle United defender Valentino Livramento, as per Football Transfers.
After coming through Chelsea’s youth system, the 23-year-old joined Southampton back in 2021. However, he sustained a serious knee injury at St Mary’s Stadium before returning to action after more than a year.
The Englishman joined the Magpies in 2023 and has flourished in his career under Eddie Howe’s guidance. He helped his side qualify for the Champions League last campaign and has been displaying impressive performances this season.
In 12 Premier League appearances, Livramento has registered one assist and has kept four clean sheets. Moreover, he has been helping his side to push for a finish in European places this season.
Now, Football Transfers report that Arsenal believe Livramento has similar qualities to Jurrien Timber, and like the Dutchman, the Newcastle star is also comfortable playing on either fullback position.
Therefore, Mikel Arteta’s side have identified Livramento as a serious target to reinforce the defence amid Ben White’s injury problems in recent years.
Livramento has a contract until 2028 at St James’ Park and is valued at around £47m. Therefore, Newcastle won’t let him leave easily, especially in mid-season, and Arsenal will have to launch a lucrative proposal to persuade Howe’s side to cash-in on him.
Livramento to Arsenal
Livramento is quick, strong, and efficient in defensive contributions. Having proven his worth in the Premier League in recent years, he has also come to the attention of England national team manager Thomas Tuchel.
The Newcastle star is already a top-class player and possesses the potential to become a world-class fullback in the future. Therefore, he would be a great coup for Arsenal should they purchase him.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to secure his service in January or next summer.
Meanwhile, after beating AFC Bournemouth last weekend and Manchester City’s 1-1 draw over managerless Chelsea, Arsenal have established a six-point lead at the top of the table.
The Gunners have accumulated 48 points from 20 matches and will face off against Liverpool on Thursday. Although the Reds have struggled thus far this season, Arsenal lost the reverse game at Anfield in August.
