Arsenal are reportedly in a fierce battle to sign Stade Rennais centre-back Jeremy Jacquet, as per TEAMtalk.

After starting his youth career at AS Outre Mer du Bois l’Abbé, the 20-year-old joined RC Joinville before signing for Rennes Academy back in 2019. He made his first team debut a couple of years ago but initially struggled to play regularly.

As a result, he joined Clermont Foot in January 2024 to play regularly and develop his career. Having impressed in Ligue 2, he returned to Roazhon Park last year before establishing himself as a key starter this season.

In 16 Ligue 1 appearances, the Frenchman has kept five clean sheets thus far, helping his side push for a finish in European places. They are currently sixth in the table with 30 points from 17 matches, sitting only two points behind fourth-placed LOSC Lille.

Now, TEAMtalk claim that Jacquet’s recent impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed, with Arsenal keen on purchasing him after monitoring his development closely.

However, the Gunners aren’t the only club interested in the 20-year-old, as Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Real Madrid are all plotting a swoop.

The youngster has a contract until 2029 at Roazhon Park and is valued at around £17m by Transfermarkt. Therefore, Rennes are in a strong position to demand a big fee if they are forced to cash-in on him.

Jacquet to Arsenal

Jacquet, standing at 6ft 2in tall, is quick, strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back, composed with possession, has an eye for long-range passing, and is efficient in defensive contributions.

He is a highly talented player and possesses the necessary physical attributes to flourish in the Premier League. Therefore, he would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future should they purchase him.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually make a concrete approach to lure him to the Emirates Stadium in January or next summer.

Meanwhile, following a hard-fought 3-2 victory over AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League last weekend, Mikel Arteta’s side will take on reigning champions Liverpool at home in midweek.
